Our Intended Impact

By 2015, SVP will have embedded high-quality and self-sustainable journalism programs in 28 Los Angeles inner-city schools, with 100% of students involved in the program demonstrating improved student engagement and increased performance on writing proficiency tests.

At the student level, SVP will also measure the overall impact its program has had on student achievement. In accordance with SVP’s mission, SVP will focus on measuring improvement in the following three areas:

  • Academic achievement, particularly changes in performance on standardized writing proficiency tests
  • Critical thinking, specifically the ability to observe a situation, analyze it, and form a viewpoint
  • Student engagement, including areas such as student attendance, class participation levels, and other qualitative metrics
